Because people are different from one another, the way symptoms can show up in people can vary. However, there are some common identifiable symptoms that people can share. If you are wondering about possible symptoms and conditions, here are some checklists that can give you a better idea.

Depression symptom checklist

  • Trouble concentrating, remembering details, and making decisions

  • Low energy

  • Fatigue

  • Feelings of guilt

  • Feelings of worthlessness

  • Feelings of hopelessness

  • Sleep disturbance, including insomnia or excessive sleeping

  • Irritability/agitation

  • Restlessness

  • Not interested in the same things

  • Not feeling like yourself

  • Appetite disturbance, including loss of appetite or overeating

  • Physical symptoms, such as persistent aches or pains, headaches, or digestive problems that appear medically inexplicable

  • Persistent sad, anxious, or “empty” feelings

  • Thoughts of not wanting to live

  • Rumination


Anxiety symptom checklist

  • Feelings of uneasiness and worry, thinking a lot about the future and feeling negative

  • Uncontrollable, intrusive, obsessive thoughts

  • Nightmares

  • Ritualistic behaviors, such as repeated hand washing

  • Problems sleeping

  • Cold or sweaty hands and/or feet

  • Shortness of breath

  • Heart palpitations

  • Numbness or tingling in the hands or feet

  • Nausea

  • Muscle tension and/or muscle aches

  • Dizziness

  • Hand-shaking/trembling

  • Avoiding places or people

  • Stomachaches

  • Unexplainable headaches
